My mother recently reminded me of her awful experience with my first pediatrician, when she became a first-time mother. Underslept and anxious, my mother had some difficulty with breastfeeding, as happens to so many new mothers. I gained no weight during that first month, which concerned my mother. Luckily, my mother replaced this doctor with Dr. Lazarus, another pediatrician who had both sterling medical credentials and human skills. Under the care of this second doctor, the breastfeeding began to work, and I became an increasing presence on the office scale.

Speed-Dating My Way to My Daughter’s Pediatrician
As an outsider, to me Rush Week sounds like a mild version of the Hunger Games, an extended parade of exaggerated female theater wherein queen sorority sister is a nightmare mom, brushing out my hair aggressively and rubbing shimmer on my legs as I walk out the door. And although owning a product that effectively “airbrushes” my legs sounds exhausting, I can understand the appeal of belonging to a sorority. A built-in social network, people to go to the dining hall with, a group of girls who remind you daily about how pretty you are.
It’s repetitive, but worth it, as each girl is trying to get to know you. Just think of it as speed dating! Kent sorority recruitment, The Ultimate Guide.
Are you compatible? Do you remember there was a trend about 10 years ago called speed dating? Yeah, that, just mommy-style. We as Army wives have to do most things efficiently. Nope, three days. Move in, unpack the toys and TV, unpack the kitchen, and out the door! Go to where the wives are! I like our neighborhood park, but this time of year the pool or lake might be a good idea.
Speed dating – with a purpose
By Morgan Reppert September 28, The process was six days long and consisted of visits and tours of the various sororities, and several rounds of speed-dating-like conversations. I was incredibly skeptical of the legitimacy of Greek life going into recruitment. Does being part of sorority allow me to network with women across the country?
Despite the lack of information I had and the stereotypes that I had heard about Greek life, I decided to give it a chance. I quickly learned that my jeans and a nice blouse were not enough.

How Sororities’ Founders Envisioned Sisterhood
Sorority recruitment is like no other student experience in college, or, for that matter, in life. This semester, instead of going through recruitment as a potential new member, I was on the other side. Throughout the past year, my sisters and I have attended countless workshops and presentations in order to prepare ourselves for this annual event. This past weekend, through over twenty-five hours of conversations with more than thirty people, I was given a chance to interact with girls whom under any other circumstance I would not have had the chance to meet.

Sorority Recruitment. Those two words are a mystery to almost every person on campus who is not part of the College Panhellenic Council chapters and the women who have disaffiliated from those chapters. From Sept. The answer to this is so simple for me; go where you are yourself without fear of judgement. Sorority recruitment is essentially speed dating with room decorations, cute outfits and chants as your presents for the date, in lieu of flowers or candy.
The women going through recruitment are being led by members of each of the chapters on campus, who have been selected to disaffiliate from their respective chapters for 6 months in order to be unbiased leaders in the Panhellenic community.

In the South, where sororities have long been a momentous rite of passage, the road to sisterhood is long and not so clearly marked. So Mrs. King, who graduated from Yale in , before it had any sororities, enlisted the aid of Marlea Foster and Pat Grant, local consultants who had coached their own daughters through rush at Furman, the University of Georgia and Auburn University. And there is a mound of it.

There is nothing more powerful than a group of women who support and uplift one another. As a woman, it is so beneficial to be connected to other likeminded women who are there when you need them. Recently, I attended an event that reminded of this. It was started by three phenomenal women Jordyn, Kiara and Nia who wanted to create a space that would connect other phenomenal women to one another.
Basically, we each asked and answered questions from a jar to get to know the other girls — much like speed dating, we had to switch to a new person after a few minutes. In the short amount of time it took to complete this activity, I realized more than ever before how amazing women are and how much we need each other to continue to grow.

Recruitment is basically a mix of speed dating and show choir. Yeah, overwhelming sounds like an understatement, right? At least that was my first thought when I went through recruitment. With no family members in Greek Life, the entire sorority recruitment experience seemed foreign and terrifying. Thankfully, that seemingly crazy process actually led me to meet my best friends, some of whom I connected with on that very first night of recruitment. Your Rho Chi is also the person who will take you from chapter to chapter, and line you up outside the houses before events.

When a play opens with two young women tipping across a dimly lit stage, wearing colorful, oversized, elongated, knit face masks and carrying a bat and frying pan, the audience knows it’s in for a crazy ride — and that’s exactly what they’ve got in Venus Theatre’s newest production. The drama often has the audience laughing out loud, while at the same time feeling the seriousness of the characters’ experiences.
The play, written by Baltimore native Jayme Kilburn, revolves around the tortured lives of two sisters: Hamiere Ham , a plus-size, outspoken, beautiful young woman with flaming red hair; and Boomer, her thin, blonde-haired sister, who most men find irresistible. The sisters were raised by their abusive father, who’s the unseen but ever-present character throughout the production. The fear the girls endured growing up under his thumb leaves them confused at times about their sexuality, relationships, their physical appearance and their safety.
But despite their dysfunctional upbringing and the baggage it left them with, one thing that Boomer and her sister, Ham, are very clear about is that they hate their father and wish he was dead. The play goes back and forth in time from the sisters’ early childhood, to their teen and adult years, played out on a sparse, psychedelic-painted, round stage.
The play’s director, Venus Theatre founder Deborah Randall ,said she chose music for the show that would reflect the sisters’ tumultuous lives. Recognizable nursery rhymes, set to angry-sounding punk rock, established the mood and kept it intact as the play progressed.
